 18/08/2010 Folk Art Paradise: Joe Minter’s African Village in America In 1989, retired construction worker and artist Joe Minter, Sr. had a vision: He wanted to commemorate 400 years of Africans in America by creating an installation using found materials, and erect it in his backyard. Concerned that the then newly opened Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham would exclude the masses of ordinary people involved in the movement, he prayed, and received his mission from God, to document the struggle in his own way. Gregorian Chant has been called the most beautiful music this side of Heaven. But as Pope Benedict XVI and the Second Vatican Council have emphasized, it is also integral to Catholic liturgical life and should be heard and experienced with wide participation in every parish. For more information:  18/06/2010 Ukrainian Icons June 18 - September 12, 2010 This exhibition from the collection of the oldest monastery in Ukraine, the Kyiv-Pecherskaya Lavra (or Monastery of the Caves) will survey the history of Ukrainian icons and their stylistic evolution over the centuries. Ukrainian icons, unlike their Russian counterparts, incorporated noted influences from western art, particularly during the Renaissance and Baroque styles. The blending of East and West in their iconography and style is unique and needs to be better known in the US. Alongside icons the exhibition will display textiles, ceremonial and altar crosses, chalices and other liturgical objects. MOBIA will be the first venue in the United States. For more information:  15/06/2010 FIRE - FROM ERACLITO TO TIZIANO FROM PREVIATI TO PLESSI 6 March - 4 July 2010 Exhibition postponed until 4 July 2010 Fire is the second event in a four-year project about the four elements (Water, Air, Earth, Fire) developed and implemented by the Foundation DNArt with the Lombardia Region in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan-Culture. The exhibition is an exploration into the symbolic and archetypal roots of the Fire element by comparing them through the exhibition of archaeological, artistic and contemporary works allowing the visitor to follow a thread that come with the growth of our culture from antiquity to present. Among the splendid works selected, all masterpieces, it ranges from ancient Greece to Imperial Rome, from Tiziano to Plessi, from Cranach to Domenichino and from Previati to Burri. This will be done by considering the differences and interactions between various forms of writing and by highlighting the relationship between types of thought and forms of communication in different cultural contexts (especially in Asia and Europe). In this case the conference will begin by looking at writing in its most suggestive material manifestation – calligraphy. In the European tradition, calligraphy makes use of abstract symbols which basically refer to phonetic expression. To a large extent this process is also found in the calligraphy of Islamic and Indian languages. In the Far East, on the other hand, calligraphy takes on a more material aspect, not so much because there is a strong visual component binding the written sign to an object or a concept, but because calligraphy and image are very often merged in both art and literature and especially in painting on religious themes. ASC DAY 2010 Domenica 8 agosto 2010 Eventi rituali collettivi La giornata della festa di San Giuseppe è una tradizione di Rassa molto sentita ed apprezzata e quest'anno si arricchisce di diversi momenti di incontro con l'arte oltre che religiosi. Infatti, domenica 8 agosto 2010 dopo la messa e la processione in onore del Santo, che hanno inizio a partire dalle 9,30, il Sindaco Fabrizio Tocchio inaugurerà la mostra di Arte Sacra Contemporanea a cura di Andrea B. Del Guercio e organizzata da ASC artesacracontemporanea e da Comunicazione Creativa. Questa esposizione di opere d’arte, allestita nella Chiesa di Santa Seguiranno nel pomeriggio a partire dalle 15, nella Sala Consiliare del Comune due proiezioni video. La prima, Oratorio della Passione di Luca, è proposta in anteprima. Una registrazione AUDIO-VIDEO presenta la prima esecuzione dell’Oratorio. Le riprese video del Sacro Monte di Varallo fanno da scenario all’opera musicale. Opera unica nel suo genere nel panorama musicale italiano di ieri e di oggi, sette cantanti solisti e tre cori, accompagnati dall’orchestra della Cappella musicale della Cattedrale diretta da Paolo Monticelli. Oltre 250 esecutori, che hanno dato vita a più di due ore di musica e di intensa spiritualità, dedicate alla passione e morte di Gesù Cristo. Conclude la giornata la performance collettiva "Free Hugs - Abbracci Gratis" che ripropone nella Valle di Tremendi un'iniziativa sociale nata a Sydney ed in seguito diffusasi in molte altre città del mondo. Vi partecipano persone comuni che offrono, appunto, abbracci gratis (free hugs) ai passanti, in luoghi pubblici. Free Hugs è la reale e controversa storia di un ragazzo australiano: Juan Mann, un uomo ed il suo obiettivo, l’unico ed importante, quello di raggiungere una persona sconosciuta ed abbracciarla, illuminando e portando gioia alla vita di entrambi. In questa epoca di separazioni sociali e di mancanza di contatti umani gli effetti della campagna di abbracci liberi lanciata da Juan Mann sono sensazionali. A volte ricevere un abbraccio è tutto ciò che ci serve. Al termine della giornata alcuni Artisti del movimento culturale arte sacra contemporanea incontrano il pubblico per un dialogo aperto. Domenica 25 luglio 2010 alle ore 16,00 Nella splendida cornice di Rassa presso la Pro Loco , si terrà il workshop sulle performance a cura del Gruppo Argilla (Antonio Spanedda, Aurelio Gentile e Gianpaolo Stranci), che opera in Italia dal 1996, attraverso azioni spettacolari in luoghi non convenzionali al fine di superare il confine fra arte e vita.
